ONE NEIGHBORHOOD AT A TIME
Start your own
SPIN chapter.
A small school team. A welcoming local laundromat. A little space for children to learn. Here’s how to bring it together.
Your first chapter starts with three steps.
- 01
Bring a small team together.
Choose a student lead and a faculty adviser. A few classmates can share printing, supplies, and weekly check-ins.
- 02
Find your neighborhood host.
Ask a nearby laundromat owner about a small learning station. Agree on its location, the supplies, and who will keep it stocked.
- 03
Start small. Keep showing up.
Begin with a small pilot using free SPIN Sheets and pencils. Check supplies, refill as needed, and ask the owner what’s working.
A SIMPLE STARTER KIT
Stock your SPIN station.
Keep it compact and easy to replenish. Donated materials or supplies you already have are a great place to start.
- A clear sheet holder
Choose a literature holder sized for letter paper, with room for roughly 50 sheets. A lid is helpful.
- Suction cups or a countertop display
With the owner’s permission, use suction cups on smooth glass or choose a stable countertop holder.
- Small pencils with erasers
Short golf pencils save space. Include a few regular pencils for children who find those easier to hold.
- A little supply cup
Keep pencils and crayons together in a small, tidy container.
- A welcoming sign
Make it clear the activities are free: “Free SPIN Sheets—take one and try it!”
Find a good spot. Choose a place children can reach that keeps doors, walkways, and folding areas clear. Check that the holder stays securely attached when stocked.
Start with one laundromat and a small learning station. Your team arranges permission and setup, prints sheets, replenishes supplies, and stays in touch with the host. Share responsibilities and agree on a refill routine that works for everyone. Please make sure everything is tidy, out of the way, and clean.
